Meniscus Lens

Meniscus lenses are categorized into positive and negative types. Positive meniscus lenses are employed to reduce the focal length of another lens while preserving the angular resolution of the optical assembly. Common substrate materials include K9 glass, UV-grade fused silica, CaF₂, and ZnSe. These lenses are typically paired with another positive lens to achieve superior focusing performance. Negative meniscus lenses are specifically designed to minimize spherical aberration. They consist of one convex and one concave surface, with the concave surface possessing a larger radius of curvature. When combined with another lens, negative meniscus lenses lower the system’s numerical aperture. They are widely used in beam-expansion applications.
